Quantum Logic for Trapped Atoms via Molecular Hyperfine Interactions

چکیده
We study the deterministic entanglement of a pair of neutral atoms trapped in an optical lattice by coupling to excited-state molecular hyperfine potentials. Information can be encoded in the ground-state hyperfine levels and processed by bringing atoms together pair-wise to perform quantum logical operations through induced electric dipole-dipole interactions. The possibility of executing both diagonal and exchange type entangling gates is demonstrated for two threelevel atoms and a figure of merit is derived for the fidelity of entanglement. The fidelity for executing a CPHASE gate is calculated for two Rb atoms, including hyperfine structure and finite atomic localization. The main source of decoherence is spontaneous emission, which can be minimized for interaction times fast compared to the scattering rate and for sufficiently separated atomic wavepackets. Additionally, coherent couplings to states outside the logical basis can be constrained by the state dependent trapping potential.

Entangling dipole-dipole interactions for quantum logic with neutral atoms
We study a means of creating multiparticle entanglement of neutral atoms using pairwise controlled dipoledipole interactions. For tightly trapped atoms the dipolar interaction energy can be much larger than the photon scattering rate and substantial coherent evolution of the two-atom state can be achieved before decoherence occurs. Excitation of the dipoles can be made conditional on the atomic...

We perform spectroscopy on the hyperfine splitting of Rb atoms trapped in far-off-resonance optical traps. The existence of a spatially dependent shift in the energy levels is shown to induce an inherent dephasing effect, which causes a broadening of the spectroscopic line and hence an inhomogeneous loss of atomic coherence at a much faster rate than the homogeneous one caused by spontaneous ph...

The controlled manipulation of entangled states of N particle systems is fundamental to the study of basic aspects of quantum theory [1,2], and provides the basis of applications such as quantum computing and quantum communications [3,4]. Engineering entanglement in real physical systems requires precise control of the Hamiltonian operations and a high degree of coherence. Achieving these condi...

We present a detailed analysis and design of a neutral atom quantum logic device based on atoms in optical traps interacting via dipole-dipole coupling of Rydberg states. The dominant physical mechanisms leading to decoherence and loss of fidelity are enumerated. Our results support the feasibility of performing singleand two-qubit gates at MHz rates with decoherence probability and fidelity er...
متن کاملTowards single atom aided probing of an ultracold quantum gas
In this thesis, the interactions in an unbalanced Rubidium (Rb)-Caesium (Cs) mixture are studied, where the Cs atoms have been used as probes to study the interspecies interactions. The Rb atoms are trapped and stored in a conservative potential, in an optical dipole trap and cooled to quantum degeneracy. The coherent manipulation of the spin states is realized using a microwave and radio frequ...
